Vendors/Contractors Information

Gaston County Schools follows the North Carolina regulations for construction and equipment procurement.  These regulations can be found at: http://www.schoolclearinghouse.org

As funding is available, projects, both capital replacement and buildings, are approved by the Board of Education (Board) to be developed.  Where required, Architectural and Engineering professionals are recruited by public advertisement, with the Request for Qualifications posted here.  Based on scope, previous experience or the Board selecting a preferred professional, a contract can be negotiated with the professional, directly.

Subsequent to design and Board approvals, based on the project’s predicted value, Informal or Formal bidding occurs.  Formal value projects are publically advertised with the vendors / contractors obtaining the project documents as directed in the advertisement.  Requests for Proposals are often also posted on this website.

Products used in construction are specified by the Architect consistent with the Board’s direction.  To this end, the Construction Specifications are included on this website.  Prior to selection of the design professional, product review and consideration offers no value.

EDUCATIONAL SPECIFICATIONS

The Educational Specification is a guideline used in planning and designing new and renovating existing schools.  The specifications describe the facility requirements to accomodate the instructional program, support functions and activities.  This document is a tool that is used to communicate basic facility design requirements and guidelines to architects, designers, school staff, and the community.  The Specification is intended to be a dynamic document that allows for modifications as required to accomodate educational program changes.
