The Process
We are looking for applicants who have completed a Master's Degree in School Counseling from an accredited university program. To become part of the applicant pool, complete all of the requirements for employment as outlined by the Gaston County Schools Human Resources Department. School principals make the decisions regarding hiring using information from the two job fairs, résumés they receive, and interviews they conduct. Feel free to contact any school where you may have an interest in working. You may send a letter of interest and your résumé directly to the principal of that school.
Additional Information
All Gaston County Schools are transitioning to implementation of the ASCA National Model for School Counseling. If you are not familiar with the National Model, visit the ASCA website. This information should assist you in the interview process as principals may ask you about your work with the model in an interview. In an interview, some of the areas you might possibly expect to have questions from are the following: the role of the school counselor, your strengths and interests, the foundation, delivery, management, & accountability of a comprehensive school counseling program, leadership, advocacy, and collaboration. Please send me a letter of interest and résumé if you have not already done so. If possible, I would prefer to receive your résumé by e-mail. While principals are responsible for the hiring of new staff, they often ask me if I have information regarding prospective counselors.
