Early College High School: Relocation and Expansion

The Early College High School is relocating and expanding opportunities to comply with state law and to make this outstanding program available to students across the county.  

 

  • State law requires that the Early College be located on a community college campus unless the county does not have a community college.  General Statue 115C-238.54 – Section 7.1A.(k) 

 

  • The Early College cooperative innovative high schools approved by the State Board of Education prior to July 1, 2011 shall meet the requirements of G.S. 115C-238.50A(5) as enacted by subsection (j) of this section no later than July 1, 2014.  

 

  • Any cooperative innovative high school which fails to meet the requirements by that date shall no longer be authorized as a cooperative innovative high school. 

 

  • Excellent facility for student learning.  The Lena Sue Beam Building on the Gaston College campus is a totally renovated facility equipped with the latest technology to enhance student learning.  

 

  • Relocation to Gaston College makes it possible to serve more students countywide.  

 

  • Relocation reduces the financial constraints for GCS.
