Gastonia, N.C. - Members of the Highland School of Technology Beta Club captured top state honors at the 74th annual North Carolina Beta Club convention held in Greensboro on February 3-4.  The winners, category and honors are listed below.  

 

  • David Clancy – Math, First place
  • Hannah Hefner – Spelling, First place
  • Daniela Lopez – Spanish, First place 
  • Aaron Marlowe – Creative Writing, Second place 
  • Rick Florian – Pencil Drawing, Third place 
  • Jay Patel – Science, Third place 
  • Jason Scanlon – Oratory, Third place 
  • Mitchell Sayasene, Jasmine Schietler, & Jessica Turcotte –  Special Talent, finalist 
  • David Clancy, Jacob Gardener, Collin Webb, Amber Williams, Lane Williams, & Nicole Winks – Quiz Bowl, Third place

 

Clancy and Hefner placed first in their respective competitions for the past three years they have been in Beta Club.  Clancy, Hefner, Lopez, Marlowe, Florian and Patel are all eligible to compete in the National Beta Club National Convention that will be held June 27-30, 2012 in Greensboro, N.C.
