I get a certificate error when I try to login to Parent Assistant. Is it safe to continue to the website?
It looks like you should not continue, but you should go ahead and Continue to this website. After all North Carolina schools receive Parent Assistant sometime late in 2011, you won't receive the error message anymore.
Will I get a single username and password to view both of my children’s accounts?
You will get a single username and password to view the information for children who are living with you. If you do not see all your children, contact the school--they can link all siblings to your account.
I have a high school student. I can see his/her daily attendance, but I can't see his/her attendance for each class period.
Although teachers take attendance in each class period, Parent Assistant can display only the official NC WISE attendance reported to the state, and that is daily attendance. You will still have to depend on teachers to let you know about problems with attendance in each class.
Can anyone else see my child’s information?
No, you must have the user name and password we provided you in order to access your child’s information.
I requested a change to my phone number. Why hasn’t the number been changed?
Gaston County Schools (GCS) can not accept requests for changes to telephone numbers through the Parent Assistant Program. Please contact your school to make changes to your phone number.
How up-to-date is the Parent Assistant information?
As soon as the teacher enters the information in the Student Information System (NC WISE), you will be able to see your child’s grades, etc. in Parent Assistant.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
You will have to go to your school and request that they reset your password.
I can’t see my child’s assignments. How can I see them?
On the assignments screen, change the date on View Assignments From. Click the calendar as indicated below and use the arrows to go back a month or more. Click the date from which you want to view
assignments.
My child’s teacher isn’t entering assignments immediately. When should I expect to see them?
Gaston County Schools grading policies require teachers to update their gradebooks at least weekly. If that is not happening, please contact the teacher.
What if I don’t get an account?
If you do not receive an account, please contact your school. Your school can create an account for you.
What if my child doesn’t live with me but I want to see his/her information?
Please contact your school – they can create an account for you. If you don’t live with your child, you will have a separate account for each child, so you may have to contact more than one school to gain access to each child’s information.
Will I still get a report card for my child?
Yes, GCS will still print and distribute report cards as we always have.
Will I still get interim reports?
We will not print interim reports unless you request them. You’ll be able to see your child’s progress through Parent Assistant. Some parents without regular access to a computer will still want printed interim reports.
What if I don’t have a computer?
You can access Parent Assistant from any computer with Internet access or you may go to the library or to a friend’s house. We also have asked each school to provide a computer where you can access Parent Assistant. In many cases, this will be in the library. You will be able to use this computer for a few minutes to access your child’s account.
